The ISE Privacy Guidelines, approved by the President, specifically state that "each agency's senior official with overall agency-wide responsibility for information privacy issues...shall directly oversee the agency's implementation of and compliance with these Guidelines." The ISE privacy official typically will be the agency's senior official who already bears overall responsibility for information privacy. Although the ISE privacy officer/senior official for privacy is a subject-matter expert with respect to privacy and civil liberties, he or she may need to reach out to program personnel familiar with ongoing agency terrorism-related information sharing arrangements.
Privacy officials are integral in the implementation of the ISE Privacy Guidelines within their department, agency, or component. The end result of this implementation will be an ISE privacy protection policy that establishes the mechanisms, policies, and procedures agency personnel will follow in implementing the ISE Privacy Guidelines.
