Senior leadership plays a key role in supporting the President's mandate to ensure the protection of information privacy and other legal rights of Americans as the Information Sharing Environment is implemented. This mandate - that during the exchange of terrorism-related information, agencies must protect the information privacy and other legal rights of Americans - is detailed in Executive Order 13388 and the Presidents December 16, 2005, memorandum.
The ISE Privacy Guidelines, issued by the Program Manager for the ISE on December 4, 2006, with the approval of the President, establish a framework for agencies to identify information subject to privacy protection, assess applicable privacy rules, and implement appropriate policy and procedures to ensure compliance. The end result, a written ISE privacy protection policy, will establish the mechanisms, policies, and procedures agency personnel will follow in implementing the ISE Privacy Guidelines.
